2009 The Tentacle,
Syrah
North Coast, California
Our latest offering of The Tentacle is a blend of 91% Syrah and 9% Grenache. The grapes were organically or sustainably grown with yields kept to a minimum and harvested for maximum flavor and ripeness. The Syrah is from Haven’s Vineyard, in the Carneros appellation of Napa Valley, Bells Echo Vineyard, west of Hopland in Mendocino County, and Furlong Estates Vineyard in the Alexander Valley. The Grenache is from the Fore Family Vineyard on Cobb Mountain in the Red Hills appellation of Lake County.
The grape bunches were hand-sorted and destemmed into either half-ton macro bins or stainless-steel tanks where they were left to cold soak for a short period of time. The must was inoculated with yeast and pumped over or punched down as needed throughout fermentation. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was pressed off its skins and underwent a secondary malolactic fermentation.
Aged for 17 months, this one really wraps it’s arms around you! It’s big and juicy with bright fruit flavors, a spicy palate with a long dark chocolate finish. This Syrah is best enjoyed with a hearty meal. Beware! Once you are caught in the tentacles of this wonderfully delicious Syrah, you may have trouble pulling yourself away.
Enjoy now and over the next 3–5 years.
